This time it's the starter.
Man....when it rains....it pours. That may very well be a cliche....but....it's a cliche because it's so true!

Today I'm going to have my taxes done. I'm taking a book, of course, because I KNOW that I'll be sitting for hours while waiting my turn. I would take a sketch book too, but that always causes people to take notice of you. They wonder what you're drawing. Quite frankly....I would prefer NOT to be noticed so much. Blending into the crowd is more comfortable sometimes.

Last night, Vicki, my girlfriend, had to put her 15-year-old cat to sleep. It's so sad, and makes me almost sick. Spunky was so sweet. She was in a lot of pain though and had SO much wrong with her. I know that Vicki is really going to miss her. I can't imagine what it will be like when we lose Rainy, Saraya, or Nanook. I don't want to think about that.

My son is coming to visit this weekend if I can get the starter replaced on my car. I sure hope I can. He didn't get to come last weekend because he had too many tests at school on Friday. Every time a president speaks, I try (yes, really TRY) to listen and understand. I try to suspend my disbelief, ignore my intuitions, and be patriotic. The problem that I keep running across, is that I know that each and every time....it's going to be the same. The same speeches rehashed in some newfangled way. Presidents always appear, to ME, to be running in the election again....making a different sort of campaign speech....one that will renew our faith in them as a leader. It's very good propaganda. Well....that's what we'd call it if we heard the same from another country's leader anyway. Yet somehow we want to think that it's completely on the level, absolute truth, real hope and encouragement from our fearless leader.

Maybe I've grown cynical in my years. Maybe I've grown numb. Maybe both. At the same time....I feel ashamed that I cannot sit and listen anymore. I'm afraid of what I'll hear, and what it might make me think. Am I a coward? A cynic? A disillusioned patriot? What have I become as an American adult?

I don't think that I'm alone in my ambivalence with this. Isn't everything a mixture of truth and perception? But....we want to believe. We want to believe in good...in peace...in anything, really. Maybe all we want is to just believe....period. That's why I cannot risk watching all of the news broadcasts, all of the presidential speeches, all of the words, words, words. I'm too susceptible to premature belief. I just can't allow myself to be lulled into another opiate of the people. It is almost a religion in and of itself, politics. We worship the power. I just cannot allow that for myself.

I have a friend that thinks I'm crazy for not wanting to know "what's going on" all the time. Well.....I would love to know, IF I knew that WHAT I knew was accurate. Or at least I THINK I would want to know. The only problem with that is that perhaps the TRUTH (unvarnished, uncensored, and unbiased) may be much more horrible than the perceptions we allow ourselves to have.

Conclusion......I just won't watch.....tonight.

As I finish my second pot of coffee today, I come to the very sobering conclusion that I am INDEED a coffeeholic. Long live bean and seed!

A site worth a "trip" to:

MentalFX

See also:

Johnny Ganjaseed

The above artwork is that of artist, Michael Kungl, and can be purchased as a 27x40 Fine-Art Print from Art.com

Well, another day of class has come and gone. Turned in my film critique and got accepted into the advanced drawing class today....two good things.

Tonight I don't have to work, so I'm planning on losing myself in "The Bourne Identity" and perhaps an adventure game later, after I take a couple of 36 exposure rolls of film here for Photography II class. Seems I'm always RIGHT on the edge of the due dates! Yes, procrastinator that I am....I'm lucky I'm able to get things in at ALL sometimes.

My bipolar disorder seems pretty under control right now, so....that's a VERY good thing. I haven't had many struggles over the past couple of months. Hopefully that means that all my medicine is working perfectly, and not that I'm heading for another hard time soon!

My addiction to computer gaming continues to grow at an alarming rate. I just can't seem to obtain enough games. I don't even have TIME to play them all, but....just as I am with books, I can't ever have enough to feel secure that I will never run out IF I need to play them!! It's really quite comical to watch, according to my friends. I have piles and stacks of games, yes indeed....all the way to the ceiling (LITERALLY). I load a few of them onto my computer at a time, play a bit of each, depending on what game best reflects my mood. Sometimes I complete whole games, sometimes I do not....which also depends on my mood and the "grab me factor" of the game itself.

And amidst all of this hunger for entertainment and moodiness, there is a woman who desperately wants to COMPLETE college and wonders why there don't seem to be enough hours in a day.

I miss my son, as well. He's 13 and just moved in with his father. I've had him solely with me for 13 years. His father and I divorced when he was very young, and although he had visitation with him, he never lived with him until 3 months ago. It's hard on both of us, and yet a good thing too.

Perhaps I am reliving my youth in some way....having reached a mid-life crisis of sorts. I party like a college student, surround myself with friends in their 20's and deliver pizza to help pay the bills while being "Little Miss College Student." I look at myself in the mirror and wonder when I'll ever "grow up," whatever THAT is.

Maybe I'll know more about that tomorrow?

Absolutely everyone has SOMEthing to say and stories to tell. It's taken me 40 years to realize that. One can learn extraordinary things from reading the thoughts of another person. My first exposure to blogging led me to say, "OH MY GOD! This is far too personal for the web. I cannot imagine that anyone would willing share their thoughts with thousands of strangers!" Yet....here I am beginning that strange practice myself.

Don't we all have the innate desire to know and be known? And there are billions of people in this world that we will never meet, never speak with, never touch. So why not make use of the technology that brings us together and pour out a bit of ourselves in the hope that it may touch someone else in some minute way?

I'm just one very ordinary person with extraordinary interests and thoughts. My mind is completely unique to ME, and yet.....it is a part of a much bigger whole. This "blogging thing" is my attempt to tap into that larger organism by sharing of myself and receiving from others as well. I plan on reading as many, if not more, blogs than I write! There is ALWAYS something to be discovered! It is my hope that this will become as habitual and energizing to me as my morning coffee, as therapeutic and cathartic as psychoanalysis, and as soothing as a warm bubble bath. Long live blogging!
